30-Day Cold Shower Challenge

After the recent failure of my last 30-Day Challenge, I wanted to try a completely (and unrelated) new challenge and write about it on Think Wilder. In the spirit of Leo Babauta's latest post (The 30-Day Learning Challenge) on Zen Habits, I was inspired to start a new 30-Day Challenge this month. Although this challenge won't be specifically learning-related, I do hope to learn from my experience.

The focus for this month's challenge is to take a cold shower everyday. You may be wondering why I would want to do this. Cold showers are miserable, right? Well, in my experience, they're tough to get used to, but research shows that there may be some benefits to be gained from taking cold showers or even turning the water to freezing cold for the last minute of a shower:

  • Better circulation and immunity
  • Increased energy and alertness
  • Healthier hair and skin
  • Improved weight loss
  • Speeds up muscle soreness and recovery
  • Reduces stress
  • Relieves depression

With a list of benefits that strong, I thought it would be wise for me to give it a try for myself!

I began this challenge yesterday, but did not have time to write up a piece about it until today. That means this challenge will go through June 30th. I plan on taking one cold shower (or at the very least, a shower that ends with at least one minute of freezing cold water) per day, and will report back about the results at the end of the month.
